What does "bible" literally mean?

The bible has various meanings from different countries. The Egyptian called the bible as Byblos. The Greeks called biblios, and it means books or scrolls. In Latin, biblia means book. The bible is a combination of a lot of books and they call it ta biblia.

How many books in Hebrew Bible?

There are 24 books of the Hebrew Bible. It shares the history of the first 3500 years from foundation until the second Temple is built in Jerusalem. These are the books:
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekial, The Twelve, Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra/Nehemia, Chronicles



What's difference between Old Testament and New Testament?

The Old Testament is the words from god that is for his chosen people and the Israelites. It is also the promise that god made to bless the world through their life. The New Testament is from the birth of Christ through his life to the building of his church. The Jewish Faith follows the Old Testament, and those who are Christians believe in both New and Old Testaments.

Who wrote the bible?

Not one specific person wrote the Bible. There are many different versions of the Bible out in the world. This link to youtube will tell you about the story of the creation of the Bible.

What's the Torah?

The prime document of Judaism is the Torah. It is translated as the "Law". But it actually means "teaching, instruction". This is how the god talks to the Jewish people. It teaches them things about life and death. There are two parts of Torah: Written and Oral. The Written Torah is called the Tanakh. The Oral Torah is just the explanation of the Written Torah, it is passed by generation to generation verbally.

What's the Pentateuch?

It consists the first five books of the Bible. They are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. "Torah" is the Hebrew name and "Pentateuch" is the Greek name.

What is apocrypha?

It means that the things are hidden. It is used in different ways and it is a word that can be very confusing when people first read it. It confuses people in both ancient books and modern books. The word "Apocrypha" was originally design for part of the books.

What's a gospel "literally" and what are the Gospels?

The word "Gospels" means "good news". There are different genre of the gospels.

What is significant about the KJV (King James Version of the Bible?)

The KJV (King James Version of the Bible) was authorized by King James, and this version of the Bible was in English. This Bible was finished in 1611, and it only took 85 years after the New Testament was translated into an English version.
